COVID-19 and Knox

Knox Presbyterian Church is committed to providing a safe and healthy facility for staff, members, and visitors. This plan was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the implementation of strategies and procedures that preserve public health.

In accordance with the guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and the Presbytery of San Gabriel, the following safety measures have been implemented for in-person services:

Social Distancing – Knox in-person services are conducted outside on the lawn. Painted circles on the grass easily designate family/household areas with boundaries six feet apart from others. Those attending are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets, and assigned seating is provided for the most well-attended outdoor services. Congregants also have the option to stay in their parked cars within view of the lawn and tune their stereo system to the designated FM station to hear Knox’s live transmission easily.

Masks – Masks properly covering the nose and mouth are required for all persons over the age of 2 years, at all times when outside their vehicle or when vehicle windows are rolled down.

Staff and Volunteers – Knox staff and volunteers observe social distancing and masking even as they serve. Speakers have designated microphones to avoid cross-contact; they remove their masks only when speaking and have additional space of 10ft in front of them. Musicians are spaced 6 feet apart and wear masks while playing; vocalists use face shields while singing and replace their masks after the music portion of the service.

Registration – Advanced registration is required for everyone attending Knox in-person services. This ensures compliance with current guidelines for attendance limits on group gatherings and collects contact information for COVID tracing purposes if needed.

Check-in – Upon arrival, congregants check-in at a contact-free station where they use their own devices to fill out a brief health questionnaire and certification that they have not been in contact with someone who has COVID.

Digital Bulletins – Bulletins for the order of service and song lyrics are provided contact-free via QR code at the check-in station, to be scanned and viewed in digital format on congregants’ own devices.

Sanitizing Stations – Hand sanitizing stations are placed at each entrance, encouraged upon arrival, and available at all times during the service.

Bathrooms – Three single-stall bathrooms are available in the sanctuary, with a marked socially-distant line outside the door to the building. There is a maximum of 3 people allowed inside at a time (one for each bathroom) and social distancing is to be observed in the hallways.
