Listening Sessions on Knox and LGBTQ+ Questions

Over the summer, Knox will be holding three listening sessions aimed at hearing from the congregation on LGBTQ+ questions. To date, Knox has not articulated any official answers to such questions. But the recent departure of members from Knox over this undefined approach has prompted the Knox session to pursue conversations on the topic over the past six months. We have spent time discussing a range of biblical and theological resources and sharing stories and experiences together. As a part of our discernment process, we would like to hear from the wider congregation on this topic. For example, would you like to see Knox articulate an official statement on inclusivity and/or affirmation as it relates to the LGBTQ+ community? What might your response be to Knox hosting or officiating same-sex marriages? What might your response be to Knox ordaining openly LGBTQ+ individuals as elders or deacons? What are the central issues you see at stake in such questions? These sessions will not be debates; rather, they will be times of open sharing and listening. We would love to hear what congregation members think about these questions. The one-hour listening sessions will be held Sunday, June 26th and August 7th at 11:30 am in the Northside House (in-person participation only), and Wednesday, July 20th at 7:00 pm via Zoom. Please use this link to sign up for a listening session. Childcare and light refreshments will be provided for the in-person sessions.
