Celebrate the summer solstice with the Knox Sustainability Team on Wednesday, June 25, with an evening hike to Sunset Bench via the Lower Clamshell Trail in Monrovia Hillside Wilderness Preserve. Meet at Knox at 6:00 p.m. to carpool to the trailhead (or meet there–across from 868 Ridgeside Dr, Monrovia–at 6:30 if you live close). The trail is rated “moderate” on AllTrails. It’s a 2.5-mile out-and-back route with 465 feet of elevation gain. It will likely take us 2 hours with breaks. We’ll arrive at the top a little early to view the sunset (which will occur after 8 p.m.), but we’ll surely enjoy the beautiful views of Monrovia from the trail, and there will be plenty of daylight to guide our feet. Wear grippy footwear and bring water.
