Paul’s letter to Philemon is one of the most overlooked documents in the New Testament. And perhaps for good reason: at least since the fourth century CE, many have interpreted it as support for slavery. White American preachers and slavers used this reading to bolster arguments for the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act. But does the letter really support slavery? This is one question we’ll explore as we study this fascinating little letter that has much to say to our modern lives. Join us for five Wednesday evenings starting September 27th, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, for dinner and inductive Bible study at the Meads’ house. Sign up here.
