Knox Kids

Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Luke 18:16

Compassion Camp is Back this Summer and IN PERSON!

Friends, we had such a wonderful experience with Compassion Camp at home last Fall. We cannot wait to share this NEW VERSION, Compassion Camp: Changing the World with Lovingkindness 2021 together in person!

  • Sundays, June 27 to August 1 (5 sessions; no camp on July 4)
  • 10:00 to 11:00 am with optional lunch and additional activities after worship
  • In person on the Knox Lawn under tents.
  • Ages 4 to rising 5th graders.
  • All participants must be fever-free for 24 hours prior to camp. Please don’t come in person if your child has a fever, rash, or GI symptoms.

Camp will begin each Sunday at 10:00 am (don’t worry if you are running late, you can join at any time). Check-in will open at 9:45 am. If you prefer to have your kids join you in the worship service, that is fine too.

All kids must wear masks. Our youth and adult volunteers will also be required to wear masks. We will keep the kids in small groups with spacing between the groups, but within the groups there will be more interaction. Each child will have their own supplies for the day. We will incorporate some water play on the hot days. Please have your kids dress for camp each Sunday, so they can be comfortable and get messy. (I would recommend packing a towel in the car just in case.)

We will not serve snacks during Sunday School. If you think that your child will need a snack, please let us know and send the snack with them. I will have special treats each week during lunch (popsicles for the first week). I will give those to parents/guardians and you can give those to your child if you would like.

Everyone is invited for lunch on the lawn following the worship service to enjoy time together. Kids will have the option for additional camp activities during lunch.

NEW 2021 Compassion Camp Themes:

  • All Around Me: Exodus 2:1–10
  • For Myself: 1 Kings 19:4–8
  • To the Neighbor: Luke 10:25–37
  • With the World: Acts 2:1–13, 42–47
  • Along the Way: Romans 16:1–16

Compassion Camp: Changing the World with Lovingkindness will include:

  • Illustrated Prayer Coloring Page and Lovingkindness Card
  • Six original songs
  • Compassion in Action: These activities help Campers think creatively about sharing their compassion and love. These small, simple, tangible acts help us express God’s deep compassion for each other, ourselves, and the world.
  • Recreation: Cooperative games that get Campers’ bodies and minds moving and reinforce Compassion Camp’s themes and takeaways.
  • Lovingkindness Practice: This practice will help Campers develop the skills and mindset necessary to practice compassion
  • Movement: Physical engagement to connect our minds, bodies, & spirits with God. We will focus on breathing alongside some basic yoga poses.
  • Create & Play: A fun mix of crafts and activities throughout all nine sessions to practice our compassion skills and have fun together.
  • Bible Story: A child-friendly paraphrase of the Bible Story accessible for all ages with imagining and wondering questions to connect more deeply with the story. We also include a coloring page that ties closely with each Bible story.
  • Family Pack: The pack is tailored for easy family use with short reflections and simple activities using basic materials found at home.

Nursery on Sunday Mornings

With Knox Kids (4 years old to rising 5th graders) outside on the lawn, the Nursery will utilize the entire Atrium from June 27 to August 1. The double doors and windows will be left open. We are in the process of installing gates to enable us to have the doors and windows open for increased ventilation. We will also be using fans to circulate the air.

Children who are walking up to age 3 will use the large Atrium room with separate play centers and supplies for each child. Crawlers will use the back Atrium classroom with the doors open and will have their own spaces, again with separate toys. Depending on the number of children who are coming to the nursery each week we may shift the spaces around, but our goal will always be to create safe spaces with small cohorts of children.

The guidelines for childcare centers stipulate that kids ages 2 and older must wear a mask indoors. I know from personal experiences that is a challenge at this age. Please bring a mask for your child and encourage them to wear it. We will help the kids with this transition and allow that some days are easier than others. Our staff caregivers and volunteers will be masked in accordance with guidelines.
